Experience the Himalayas from your kayak, travel 140 km on the holiest river of the country, and visit remote villages and curious people. This is the epic journey of a lifetime!
This is the trip for paddlers who want to experience Nepal by kayak! This two weeks epic paddling expedition takes place on the holiest river of Nepal – Kali Gandaki, named after the godess Kali. As no previous white water kayaking experience is needed for this trip we start with a river running introduction at the Royal Beach Camp on the Trisuli river. There we enjoy the nice camp and stay in bamboo beach huts. We then move on to Pokhara – with breathtaking views of the over 8000 meter surrounding Himalayan peaks before setting out on our six day river journey down the Kali Gandaki. We then learn and develop our paddling skills as we travel along and enjoy nature, stunning views and the hospitality of the people living in this seldom visited part of Nepal. Once on the river we are completely self-supported. We camp on the riverbank. After conquering Kali Gandaki and covering 140 km by kayak we head towards the Chitwan National Park, the home of 420 different specious of birds, one-horn rhinos, crocodiles, wild elephants, barking dears and Bengal tigers. We get a chance to bath with elephants and visit Tharu villages and see their traditional dances before we head back to the historical city of Kathmandu for sightseeing and shopping.
DAY 1: Arrive at Royal Beach Camp on the Trisuli river. We get fitted into our white water kayaks. In the afternoon your instructor will take you through an introduction to white water kayaking and we paddle to get used to our boats and gear. In the late afternoon you can then enjoy our beautiful beach, play beach vollyball or just relax in our lounge. At sunset the bar serves drinks and a bit later we serve a nice dinner. Sleep in the comfort of your beautiful, simple thatched roofed bamboo hut.
DAY 2: Kayak the Trisuli river class II /III rapids, this is a great introduction to paddling white water, we go through basic rescue and paddle techniques and practice communication on the river. Overnight at Royal Beach Camp.
DAY 3: After breakfast you get equipped for going canyoning. We use our own explored beautiful waterfalls for canyoning. The approach to the falls are through small trails up the hills, through fields and forest and into the gorge, through the jungle… And then, all off a sudden there is a series of beautiful waterfalls. Hook on to the ropes and go off the edge! We jump and slide the smaller falls and absail with rope and harness down the bigger ones. A real thrill and cool adventure – hang on a vertical cliff with water splashing on your head! Overnight at the camp.
DAY 4: Drive to Pokhara. Nepals second largest city. From here you have fatastic views of some of the 8000 m. peaks including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Machapuchre, known as fishtail mountain, and many others. We stay at a nice familyrunned hotel. In the afternoon there is time to explore Pokhara, go Paragliding or just chill out at the lake side.
DAY 5: Today we leave for our river journey! We drive to the put-in on Kali Gandaki and starts our river journey. The journey is six days in class II/III easy white water, covering 140 km. We have the raft to support us, carrying all our food, camping gear and all necessaries for the trip. There is no place to resupply so we bring everything that we need with us.
DAY 6-9: Kayak down the holiest river in Himalayas. We visit the curious local people and learn more about their culture and life style. We paddle all day, stop for lunch and then camp on the white sandy beaches at night. We are on expedition, so everyone helps loading and unloading the raft and setting camp. At night enjoy the campfire and shooting stars with rum punch.
